How do I enable Copilot chat in Word?
You can start a Copilot chat by clicking the Copilot button in the ribbon menu. This button is available if you have a Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription or a Copilot Pro subscription.
Is my Word 365 Copilot enabled?
Copilot is automatically enabled in all Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscriptions, as well as all Copilot Pro subscriptions. Locate the Copilot button at the far right corner of the upper ribbon menu.
Do Copilot prompts have a word/character limit?
It’s a good idea to keep your prompts under 4,000 characters to ensure Copilot processes the whole prompt. While Copilot can summarize longer pieces of content, instructional prompts should be kept under that limit or broken into steps.
Can I trust the output from Copilot and how reliable are its suggestions?
Copilot provides reliable information the vast majority of the time, but it’s always possible for AI large language models to provide inaccurate responses or suggestions. Proofread output from Copilot before you use it in finalized materials.
How is my data used by Copilot and how secure is it?
Copilot data is encrypted and stored as your activity history within the bounds of the Microsoft ecosystem. It isn’t used to train new AI models. Your Copilot activity is deleted after a certain time, and you can delete it manually in your account privacy settings.
Who owns the copyright of the text generated by Copilot?
Text generated by Copilot isn't owned by Microsoft, and Microsoft doesn’t designate whether anyone else owns it. In the U.S., works that include AI content can be copyrighted if a person sufficiently modifies them.
